Arai Quantic helmet in diamond white Product Information

The Arai Quantic is a new-for-2021 sports-touring helmet. It is Arai’s first ECE 22/06 helmet. It is made from a brand new shell (PB e-cLc). Arais always have particularly strong shells, but the shell on the Quantic has a shell that is lighter, but just as strong, as other Arais. You still get the classic, round ,shell shape that Arai contends allows their helmets to better glance off impacts.

All the interior parts can be swapped out for fittings that are thicker or thinner in order to allow the Quantic to be custom fitted. The cheekpads are ERS prepared to enable them to be removed speedily in the event of an accident. The helmet comes with a Pinlock 120 equivalent in the box.

Venting is a big deal on the Arai Quantic. There are 12 vents in total; six in and six out. The 3D Arai logo on the brow conceals two air intakes. You also get two tear duct vents on the top of the helmet and a chin vent. Not to be forgotten are the eyebrow vents on the visor. Air exhausts through vents in the rear spoiler, through two side exhausts and through the neck exhaust.

A nice touch on the Quantic is the visor latch that Arai has lifted from it Formula One helmets. This locks the visor securely into place, and can easily be operated with one finger. Inside the helmet you get a breath guard that directs hot air away from the visor, whilst a chin curtain reduces noise and helps the air vents work better.

Like all Arais, every single Quantic is inspected five times during its construction. And like all Arais the Quantic is tested to a standard that is higher than the statutory requirement; and that includes the dropping of a 3kg test cone on to the shell. The eps is multi-density as you might expect. Indeed, on the Quantic there are never less than three densities, and as many as five in some areas.

The Arai Quantic comes in three shell sizes; two for each actual size.

GH: Great helmet, lousy visor mechanism

I love this helmet it fits my head perfectly, and it exudes quality from the deep white metallic paint to the luxurious plush interior. I had a Shoei Air before, and the Quantic feels much more secure on my head especially at the back of the neck and is quieter. You do get a bit of whistling from the vents on the top if they are opened, but otherwise its quiet. I suspect peoples assessment of noisiness depends a lot on how well a helmet fits around their ears and cheeks, and in my case the Quantic fits quite snugly in those areas. I would give it a 5, except for one thing the stupid, over-complicated visor mechanism. Once you snap the visor shut, its tricky to open it again. You have to use a little lever and push the visor up and outwards slightly to clear a retaining notch. This system is difficult to use with racing gloves, and virtually impossible to use with my winter gloves. By the time Ive stopped at traffic lights, and fiddled with it, the lights have changed again! A poorly thought-out solution to a non-existent problem, because the visor doesnt need locking down anyway - it would stay put of its own accord. I could also do without the huge silly spoiler on the back of the helmet, which needlessly wastes space if you try to leave it in a top-box or pannier. But overall, I really like this helmet and appreciate Arais philosophy of putting quality and safety above all else. I have nothing but praise for Moto Legend they spent a lot of time and care on ensuring I got a good fit even though it felt right straight out of the box. Highly recommended!

Round Oval: Princely comfort, outstanding ventilation, but a bit noisy for sports touring

To paraphrase Gianni Versace In the past, people were born royal. Nowadays, royalty comes from wearing Arai. The Quantic cocoons my head in princely comfort, and the entire helmet oozes regal quality. The vents work flawlessly, and the Diamond White has a lustre that makes Shoeis white colour look fit for a pauper. Shoei, are you reading this? I decided not to crash to test this helmet for Motolegends. But its an Arai with the newfangled 22.06 certification a combination that inspires my complete confidence. I have found the Quantic a majestic place to put my head but for one thing. It makes my ears ring hence four stars, not five. On the identical bike, with the screen unchanged, and despite custom earplugs, the Quantic is noisier at motorway speed than the old Shoei it replaced. And this noise isnt good enough for a £500 lid made for sports touring. The Quantic has a chin curtain its a perfect size, not so big its suffocating, and the visor seal is excellent preventing whistling sounds. But why Arai? Why, oh why cant Arai invest in more wind tunnelling to reduce noise at higher speeds? Its quiet at lower speeds, but the Quantic is noisy on a windy day or the motorway. That said, the ventilation is outstanding its the best ventilation Ive ever had in twenty years of biking. Its not only cooling when required but easy to adjust from Zero quieter but not quiet enough to Full-blown Gale. If ventilation matters to you more than noise, the Quantic is ideal. Last but not least fitting, the trip to Motolegends was worth the in my case, lengthy ride. I have never had a shop take such care to find the correct shape helmet for me.
