Klim Kodiak 2 jacket in stealth black Product Information

Primarily an off-road and adventure brand. But the Klim Kodiak is primarily an on-road outfit. The CE certified version of the Kodiak is an updating that makes it even more appropriate for those who want to commute in a Klim. What makes the Kodiak more suited for the road is that it is way more fitted than the more adventure-focussed Badlands. As with the previous incarnation, it is made from a 3-layer, Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric. This means that it’s never going to wet out, and when it does get wet it will dry out quickly. For added abrasion resistance, you get perforated, leather panels on the elbows and shoulders. In terms of armour, the Kodiak comes fitted with Level 2 D3O in the shoulders, elbows and back. There is also an integral kidney belt. Pockets are in abundance, as always with Klim. If we had had enough fingers we would have been able to count all 11. Another thing that Klim is fond of is vents, so they have kindly supplied some eight in total.

The major changes for version 2 are designed to make the Kodiak more wearable and more comfortable on long road journeys. To this end the panel make up has changed, but you also get Gore-Tex stretch panels under the arms. A mesh liner also now makes the Kodiak easier against the body and helps moisture wick more effectively. Most Klim garments are what is known as shell garments, meaning that they come with nothing by way of thermal protection. But the Kodiak comes with its own 800 fill, duvet-style destination jacket. You also now get a removable storm collar. Obviously, the Kodiak jacket comes with a zip to connect to the matching pant. There’s lots of other detailing on the jacket but, in truth, the only way to work out whether the new Kodiak is for you is to try one on. Lots more technical detail is no substitute. Now what nobody in Ohio in saying, but which is clear to us, is that Klim is taking a tilt at the Rukka Nivala. And that will be an interesting comparison. Maybe we’ll do a video on that. What is beyond doubt is that the Kodiak just got better. Please note the chest protector is not CE approved, but in just about every respect this is a jacket that can be considered in the same company as the very best from Rukka and Stadler.

Mark C: Great update

I owned the previous model of the Klim Kodiak jacket and on the whole loved it. However it had a couple of shortcomings which have been addressed with this new iteration. The cuffs on the old version made getting gloves under it a bit of a faff. This version with zips and velcro at the cuff makes it much easier to get the glove under it. This version is also a bit lighter due to additional stretch material being used. Another issue I had with the previous version was the story collar which was great as long as it was dry, which in the UK is not often enough so to now have a detachable strom collar is a bonus. The only negative I have is the removal of the large under arm vents which I found good when touring in hotter climes. One thing I will say is that this is not cheap and while the inclusion of the Maverick down jacket explains a chunk of this I would rather have seen the price lower and no down jacket included as I am sure most like me have their own base layers already. I sold my previous version for a good price as well as the unused Maverick which made the upgrade a lot more palatable. So in summary its a great jacket although expensive but you do get what you pay for.

Alan Mitchell: Superb jacket and pants from Klim

I am an atv rider with years of experience, been able to ride all over the world but the Sahara was best. Enough about me but quickly a history of my gear previous to thisI have pretty much been an alpinestars guy for a lot of years. Prior to getting the kodiak 2 I was sporting a Ketchum jacket and pants. I also used to wear a tech air 5 airbag with the suit. I always felt pretty well protected with the gear I was using but wanted a top end textile suit as an addition to my alpinestars suit. I had been looking at the kodiak 2 jacket and pants for a while. I liked the idea of it being a kinda intermediate suit between off and on road. My atv riding is now pretty much limited to on road due to shoulder and right leg problems. I Liked the features the suit comes with, especially all the d3o armour. I took the plunge and boy am I glad I did. I originallly planned to use my airbag in conjunction with the suit but have now ditched it as I feel just as protected with the armour that comes with the kodiak. The jacket and pants are snug, not too tight and not too loose. The addition of the mid layer puffer jacket is excellent and doesnt feel bulky under the suit. The braces take a bit of time to adjust to avoid them pinging off but once adjusted properly they are good and hold the pants in place really well. I wear tech air 10 boots which fit fine with this suit. There are loads of adjustments but once again once you have adjusted them you dont need to worry about doing it again. There is heaps of storage with pockets galore. I purposefully took my bike out in pouring rain and the suit performed to full expectations. Not one part of me got wet and I was lovely and warm throughout the ride temp around 3 deg C this suit performs superbly no matter what you throw at it. When combined with a krios pro and GTX gloves you certainly look the part but you also feel as if your just about as safe as you can be. Body movement in the suit is excellent and not restrictive at all. All in all a great suit and very very well though out and made
