Product InformationSome of you may remember that, a few years ago, we made replicas of the gloves that Steve wore when he competed at the 1964 ISDT in East Germany for the American Vase team. In fact, he was known to have worn the same style of gloves back in California, both before and after that event.
We made 500 pairs of those gloves across a range of sizes, and they all sold out quite some time ago. But accurate copies as ours were, they were really little more substantial than a pair of golfing gloves. In fact, thats probably what the originals were.
Well, this time round, weve decided to upgrade the gloves to make them much more wearable and protective that the pair that Steve had. Yet weve done this without altering the look of the gloves whatsoever.
The starting point is that, this time round, weve used deerskin instead of the softest sheeps leather. Now deerskin is known as the cashmere of leathers. Its super soft, but still incredibly strong, which is why deerskin gloves have always been the first choice for American cowboys and ranch hands.
The use of deerskin alone means that these gloves are in a different league to the originals. Theyre still not going to reach the levels of protection you get with a modern, high-tech racing glove, but they are going to give you a reasonable level of abrasion resistance when you come off. (I mean if you come off!)
But to enhance these gloves even further, weve added a Thinsulate liner to give you a degree of warmth when it turns chilly. Steve probably didnt need the extra insulation back in California, but we thought you might appreciate it over here. Come to think of, it was pretty cold and miserable in Berlin that September in 1964. Perhaps he could have done with a warmer pair of gloves. Who knows, he might not have crashed out!
- Made from deerskin leather
- Thinsulate liner
- Please note these gloves are of a classic style which do not feature any protection, as they have been designed purely as a fashion accessory.
