Rukka Hero 2.0 glove in black Product Information

The Hero glove has been in the Rukka range for some years. The Hero 2 is an updating of that glove, although it is still recognisably the same beast. And by that we mean that it is a highly protective, all-leather, summer glove with no waterproof membrane.

Rukka gloves are always beautifully made and put together. They are structurally strong and feel robust. There gloves do not wear loose. They are shaped to the hand. But they are not always the most comfortable, especially to begin with.

The hero is no exception. Yes, it is made from goat’s leather, which is thinner and more supple than cowhide, but the protective components of the glove mean that this is a glove that is going to take some wearing in.

The main knuckle is covered with a hard protector that is lined on the underside with a soft foam. At the base of the palm there’s a large rubber slider. Again, it’s a robust affair, and some people may feel that it is going to get in the way when it comes to ‘feel’ on the bars. It’s not uncomfortable, but you know it’s there.

For airflow, the fingers, the thumb and the back of the hand are perforated. The glove’s open-back construction is a design feature designed to make it easier to wrap one’s hand around the bars. You also get concertina-stretch panels in two of the fingers and on the thumb. There’s an extra layer of leather on the palm of the hand. The minor knuckles also get small pads for a little bit of extra cushioning in the event of an accident.

The forefingers and thumbs on both hands are touchscreen sensitive. The short cuff fastens by means of a single, Velcro strap.

So what can we say about the Hero 2. Well, it’s a serious glove. It’s not your run-of-the-mill summer glove. If you want something light and easy for popping down to the shops, this may not be the glove for you. This is a summer glove for the longer haul. It will reward those who persevere. It will will feel a little stiff and uncompromising at the beginning, but the more you wear it, the more agreeable it will become.

At £120, the Hero is not expensive for a Rukka glove, but it is expensive for a pure, summer glove. We can’t say whether it’s worth paying this much for a summer glove; for some it will be; for others it won’t be. But one thing we can be sure of is that you will still be wearing Rukka's Hero gloves many years after your average summer gloves have been consigned to the bin.
