Schuberth E1 helmet in matt black Product Information

The Schuberth E1 is that rare commodity; an adventure helmet with a flip front. It is, however, not entirely a model in its own right. It is basically a Schuberth C3 Pro with add ons. No issue with that; the C3 Pro is a great starting point. The C3 Pro has been around since 2014. It is well proven, and is still one of the best flip-lid helmets out there; it is still the yardstick by which all flip-lids are measured. The shell is constructed from a mix of glass, and other organic, fibres. It is also one of the very quietest helmets on the market, which is why it is so highly regarded by high-mileage commuters. The helmet comes with all the features you might expect: Grade 1 optical-quality, outer visor, a drop-down sun visor, Pinlock anti-fog insert, chin and brow vents, a micro-metric chin strap fastener and so on. The lining is infused with Coolmax. In terms of comms., the E1, like the C3 Pro, will house a Sena system called the SC10U that is totally integrated so as not to leave a box on the side of the helmet.

There are really two key differences between the C3 Pro and the E1. Firstly, the chin vent. Moulded on to the front of the chin of the E1 is a larger air intake. The theory behind this is that, if you are riding off-road, you may need to get more air into the helmet. It works, but the downside is perhaps a little more wind noise.

The other distinguishing feature of the E1 is its peak; always considered a necessary addition on an adventure helmet, where you will sometimes find yourself riding into the sun. What we would have to say is that the peak on the E1 is not the most robust we have come across. In certain situations, dependent perhaps upon the screen on your bike, it can oscillate a little and create wind noise. If you buy an E1, you should be aware that this might happen. If it does, it is not a fault with the helmet; it is just the way it is. But the helmet can easily be converted back to be worn without the peak. You just use the blanking plates to cover the holes in the side of the visor.
