Open Face Motorcycle Helmets

There’s no denying the appeal of an open-face helmet. On a warm day, when you’re cruising through town or pottering down country lanes, nothing feels more free. You get the wind in your face, more visibility, and a direct connection to the road that’s hard to beat.
 
But we’re not going to sugar-coat it, for serious riding, a full-face or flip-lid helmet is the safer choice. An open-face lid offers no chin protection, and there are plenty of grim photos online that show what can happen in a frontal impact. So it really depends on how, when and where you ride.
 
Still, if an open-face lid is right for you, there are better and worse options. The Shoei J-Cruise 3, for example, gives you proper protection in the shell and structure, with a full-length visor and an internal drop-down sun visor. For a more minimalist look, the new Shoei J.O2 dials it back to basics but still meets the latest ECE 22-06 safety standard.

Nicholas Evitts: Better than expected

Bought this helmet recently and after changing it for a better fit, I now find this helmet works really well. Its quiet I have a naked bike seems fairly warm and not ice cold given the lack of a chin bar, the plug and play comms set with the included remote control works really well too, and its light weight.. Overall, for me its better than I expected.
