Belstaff McGregor Pro jacket in black Product Information

The McGregor Pro is the jacket that Ewan wore for his and Charley’s most recent ‘Long Way Up’ adventure. In truth, we cannot imagine a less appropriate form of outerwear for such a trip, but ever the actor Ewan wanted to play the part of the classic British adventurer.

The jacket is something of a work of art, but it is monstrously heavy, and therefore not the kind of jacket you want to be wearing when you’re working up a sweat.

In styling terms, it is basically the Trialmaster. It is a long, four-pocket jacket. The wax cotton is very heavy and very waxy, although waterproofing is really taken care of by a Miporex membrane. On the elbows and shoulders you get leather panelling. Inside, the jacket is lined with a McGregor tartan of some description. Armour is by D3O, and comes as standard in the elbows and shoulders. The jacket has a pocket for a back protector.

The McGregor is a heck of a jacket, but to ride in it requires a degree of commitment. It is more a statement piece than a pure riding jacket, in our view.

Terry R: Quality and style

I loved the look of this jacket as soon as I saw it on Long Way Up. Thats rare for me and Im usually driven by the head not the heart. Initially the head won as I really didnt need another biking jacket. However, it kept nibbling away at me and I finally bought one. I did some reading around and, as I am slim in body, chanced sizing down one size to medium from the suggested large, as I wanted a close fit. The danger with this is that the arms come in too short sometimes. I need not have worried, the jacket fits me well with a little space inside and the arms are still long enough. I particularly like the slightly shorter cut of this jacket compared to the Trialmaster. The quality of construction seems to be excellent and I can confirm the waterproofing works well. Although I must confess to not having worn it on the bike yet it has become me go to jacket for everything else. It is comfortable but not warm. As Chris says in colder weather you will need something warm underneath as there is no liner supplied. For me a totally un-necessary purchase but one which I absolutely love. But as my dear departed father used to say, there aint no pockets in shrouds.
