Leather Motorcycle Jackets

A leather jacket is a motorcycling staple, and it is written in law somewhere that every motorcyclist has to own at least one leather biker jacket. Leather is very comfortable to wear, and becomes more so with age. Leather is also abrasion resistant, although this depends on the thickness of the leather and, these days, textile jackets can offer even more protection than leather. Leather is not warm, per se, but with base layers or a thermal liner a leather jacket can be fine in the cold. But leather is emphatically not what you want in the wet. It soaks up the moisture, and can very quickly make you feel very cold.

Belstaff Vanguard jacket in black

Steve C: Top Gear

I rarely write reviews of any kind. That said, I have sometimes taken to the review pages to highlight rogue dealers, kit, or dodgy items of clothing. When I considered a Belstaff jacket, all my style over substance SOS prejudices came bubbling to the surface. I eventually got over it and stopped being precious. I ordered a Belstaff Centenary Outlaw Pro leather jacket directly from Belstaff. It was probably the most beautiful leather jacket I have ever seen and offered enough shoulder and elbow protection to sooth my SOS concerns. I am a UK 48-inch chest, and most fitting issues affecting me are too much material around the middle. I thought the 4XL size in the Belstaff should do it, but to my surprise, the gap in the main zip was at least 60mm wide way too small. As there was no 5Xl, it had to go back. A short time later, Motolegends had a Belstaff sale, I never thought I would live to see a discount of that magnitude on a Belstaff! Although the Outlaw Pro jacket was not an option, I ordered the Belstaff Vanguard in 5XL. The main attraction was the 135 quid discount and the fact that Motolegends would not sell this if it was not a good piece of kit. I was not disappointed, the fit is perfect for me, and no midriff concerns. I think this due to the fact that the concertina leather panels are so effective in maintaining a close fit. I can wear this jacket on any of my six bikes, be that the extreme 961 Commando Café Racer or my Varadero. This jacket is pure class. Would I have paid the full price for it? Yes, and the Klarna 3 payments option is such a fantastic way to buy this jacket, backed up by the Motolegends buy-with-confidence ethic.
