Spidi Pathfinder 2 Cargo pants in forest green Product Information
I am not sure whether it is technically correct to suggest that Spidi was the first company to produce a single-layer motorcycle jean. I believe they were, but I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong.
They started out making what were known as Kevlar jeans, but they were certainly making protective jeans without a lining ten years ago. And that was because they realised that, being based in Italy, you cooked if you wore any kind of jean with a separate abrasion-resistant lining.
These days we offer the single-layer Spidi Tracker Tech jean as a kind of entry-level protective pant. We also do their Dyneema based jean called the J&Dyneema. It's AAA rated, stretchy and super comfortable. Unfortunately, it doesn't always tend to get all the oxygen it perhaps deserves because of our near obsession with Rokker jeans.
The point I am making is that Spidi knows jeans. And they also know cargo pants because, without putting too fine a point on it, a cargo pant is similar in many ways to a jean. They're just not made from denim. And, of course, they tend to have bigger pockets.
Well, the Pathfinder 2 Tech is their latest cargo pant, and despite the fact that even we are becoming a little bored with 'green' cargo trousers, we think it's a bit of a cracker. It also comes, of course, in a dark grey that Spidi calls Anthracite.
This latest Pathfinder pant is made from a combination of cotton and Cordura with a touch of Elastane thrown in for a bit of extra stretch.
Now that's not a particularly exotic combination of materials, but it's enough to earn the pants an AA rating for abrasion resistance under EN17092. And although AA represents quite a spectrum most people take the view that an AA rating is more than up to the job when it comes to road riding.
The knee armour is Level 2. The hip armour is Level 1, but it's twice the size of most pieces of hip armour so we really like it.
Truth be told, there's not a whole lot more to say about the Pathfinder 2 Techs. You get two jean-style pockets at the front. Two large cargo pockets on the thighs. And two back pockets.
Being an Italian brand the fit on the Pathfinders is on the slimmer side, although it's in no way boy band. We reckon it's more of a Tapered Slim fit, but with stretch built into the fabric they're still comfortable even when worn on the snugger side.
The pants go from a rather diminutive 28" waist right up to a 40" waist. Their sizing is not generous, by the way. Somewhat bizarrely, the Anthracite version comes in a regular and a short leg, whilst the green one is only available in a regular.
Finally, just in case you find yourself searching for these pants on the web. There's another version of the Pathfinder. It's not the 'Tech' version. It is single-A rated and only comes with knee armour. It's also cheaper than this pant. We thought you should know.
