Bell Custom 500 helmet in matt black (RFX009)
Product InformationAs most bikers know, Bell pretty much invented the modern motorcycle helmet. In 1954, Roy Richter founded the helmet division of Bell Auto Parts and, in 1957, they introduced the most famous helmet in motorcycling history, the 500TX, a design that is now displayed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Some years ago, Bell said sold its naming rights to a company in Belgium, but recently they took the rights back and have now created a new range of helmets that have been designed specifically for the European market. Of course, one of Bell's new helmets is an up to date version of the classic 500TX, now called the Custom 500. The Custom 500 is about as classic as a helmet can get. It's a look and style that has been much copied, but if it doesn't feature the famous Bell logo on the front, then it's not the real McCoy. What makes the Custom 500 so special, however, is that it comes in no less than five different shell sizes. No other maker of an open-face helmet goes to such lengths to get the helmet looking just right on the wearer's head. Most will have just two shell sizes. What this means is that extra, unnecessary padding lines the helmet to make it fit snugly. So you often end up with a helmet with an inch or two of padding between your head and the helmet's shell. And this can look a little ungainly. But with five differently sized shells, the Custom 500 always looks just the way it should, sitting lower on the head for a perfect appearance. The Custom 500 comes in seven colours, although here at Motolegends we're also offering a number of specials that you won't find anywhere else. The helmet can be fitted with a peak in black or white, although this doesn't come as standard. The Custom 500 comes with an arrangement of five studs that allow you to fit any one of Bell's many bubble visors that are, once again, all the rage. There's only one thing we don't understand about this new open face helmet, and that's the price. Quite seriously, we think it's too cheap. A lot of people out there judge a helmet on the basis of its price. Frankly, £169.99 isn't enough for a helmet of this quality, and we fear that some bikers will draw the wrong conclusions. Luckily, with the Bell branding, you know you're getting the real deal. This isn't anybody else's off-the-shelf helmet with a Bell logo stuck on it. This is a Bell through and through, so quality is assured.

Neil Laugeard: Bell custom 500
Great looking kid, feels tighter to put on then my other lids but once on its very comfortable, also sits lower on head so doesn’t have that bowl look like some open face lids have, would recommend.
