Kriega ROAM 34 RSD backpack in ranger Product Information
I don’t suppose that anybody really doubts that Kriega make the best rucksacks. They produce a bewildering array of bags in a large range of sizes and configurations. And so we thought it was great news when we heard that the company was going to be producing a rucksack in wax cotton. After all, most of Kriega’s rucksacks look quite similar.
And, of course, this rucksack is terrific; it has all the features you would expect of a Kriega. A waterproof, 15” laptop compartment. A main compartment that expands from 22 litres to 30. An adjustable QUADLOC harness. A 4-litre front compartment with an organiser section. And so on and so forth.
The only thing we are not particularly taken with is the Roland Sands branding. Perhaps this is a positive for hipsters and Bike Shed sorts, but we just don’t see that having Roland’s name emblazoned across the top adds much. And some people, we know, will think it’s just a bit……, well just a bit obvious.
But if you can get over the overt branding, then the good news is that this is a fabulous bag. It will work well with any classic or retro bike. It will look right with a leather jacket or, of course, with a wax cotton Belstaff. It is just the right size for commuting, although it’s probably a bit small for a night away, unless of course you really are a light packer!
At £229.00, it’s not inexpensive, but it is still a Kriega bag, and will have been put together with longevity in mind, and with the company’s ferocious attention to detail.

Steve: All good
Great pack - if the spec is what you want and you have the cash, buy it! You wont be disappointed by the quality.
Andy: very useful backpack
i bought this as more of a day to day use option than the R30 i already have, and its been brilliant, great quality, very comfortable to wear, how the weight of a fairly loaded bag with the clever yet simple shoulder straps disappears when riding is very clever and there is a lot of easy to use storage bits, while also not being a faff to find what im looking for in the bag, worth every penny.
Steve: Great quality, nothing to fault
Were fairly conditioned to look for price. Lots of bad reviews by non-customers of really nice products are simply because the price actually reflects the quality and the difficulty of making stuff that works well and lasts. Anyway, after ages of deliberating I went for the Kriega Roam RSD for a few reasons, the main ones being - people were saying the harness system works really well. It does! - I wanted something that would look fine as a regular rucksack as well as work on the bike - I hardly ever fly but still wanted something that would be within carry-on size for the odd occasion - the expansion zip is great, its not anywhere near as noticeable as you would think. - comes with a strap to attach to a bike - although not cheap its good value for the quality I think. - the main compartment opens wide enough to be easy to pack So, really pleased with it. The brown waxed cotton looks great and it feels like it will last ages.
Moritz: Good for shopping in dry weather
I just transported two pairs of high shaft hiking boots and a couple of other stuff in one go. Great weight distribution due to wide, rigid straps. The backpack looks quite small, but packs a lot. Especially with the extension. The top material feels nice and is water resistant. The zippers could be more protected and water resistant or even water proof. Other than that great build quality overall. I was looking for a light colored bag. This one is about walnut brown... No visible logos is a big plus, as is the variety of clips used. The waterproof laptop bag is completely useless to me.Too small for a laptop 15, too much in the way in the main compartement. Feels good at any speed 0-120 mph
Paul: Built to last forever
All the solid, quality construction youd expect from Kriega. As with all their stuff it feels like it will last forever - and years of me abusing their other products has never once seen anything fail. Not a zip, not a clip, nothing. Absolutely bombproof. This bag is a little different as not only do you get the bombproof construction but its a bit more stylish or a bit less special forces if you know what I mean. The only downsides I can think of - all that strength means its a little heavy even when empty. And the price of course but at least you only buy once when things are made this well.
