PMJ Sunset chinos in cognac Product Information

Unlike some chinos, the Sunset is not based on a jean. Jeans tend to have pockets at the front. Chinos tend to have what are known as slash pockets. You get two flap packets at the back.

The fit is on the slim side, although we would say they’re not super slim. But with stretch in, they will be comfortable on most. I don’t consider myself to have particularly skinny legs; I’m pretty average in terms of build, and they worked fine on me. They weren’t baggy, and they weren’t boy-band tight. But they are, like most, PMJ jeans, pretty neat on the waist. A 34” waist is normally loose on me, but not here! My view is that you should go one size up, because this jean actually measures 33”, which is normally the actual measure on a 32” labelled pant. I have to say that we were also a bit disappointed that these chinos come in just one leg length; and that’s 32”. If you’re 32” in a pair of Levi’s, these may well be too short once you’re sat on the bike.

The material is a material that PMJ calls ULTRACOR; that’s a mix of Cordura and cotton. PMJ have recorded a slide time on a Cambridge machine, the abrasion test used on the old EN13595 standard. The Sunsets recorded a time of 3.8 seconds; and we reckon that’s pretty impressive.

The jeans come with lightweight, pliable armour. It’s made from a company called Impactec. It’s very vented, although the knee protectors are very gently shaped. That does, in truth, sometimes help the armour sit over the knee, but shaped armour will never feel quite as nice when you’re off the bike. The hip armour is also by Impactec.

The Sunsets are smarter than a pair of denim jeans. There aren’t many places where you would feel out of place or under dressed if you turned up wearing a pair of them.

They’re comfortable, the fit is pretty universal, they are more abrasion resistant than you might expect from a Cordura pant, and the armour is nice too.

The price is also, we think, pretty reasonable. They’re worth a look.
