Rokker Rokkertech Tapered Slim jeans in black black Product Information

Rokker's jeans are the most technical on the market. Their early adoption of materials that incorporated UHMWPE fibres gave them a lead on the competition. And it is these fabrics, Armalith in particular, that allow their jeans to wear like street jeans, yet still offer abrasion resistance better than, according to EN 13595, leather trousers.

But, actually, Armalith is a material that these days is freely available in the market. Any manufacturer can buy it. And so we come to the view that it is Rokker's specialisation, and their single-minded drive to produce the market's best-fitting, most wearable and stylish jeans that puts them so far ahead of the pack.

In essence, the Black/Black jean has what is known as a Tapered Slim fit. This has historically been Rokker's most popular style. It is actually fairly straight from the waist down to the knee. Below the knee, the leg tapers down to the ankle. It certainly doesn't constitute a super-slim fit. If it's that eighties' boy band look that you're trying to cultivate, then you might be better off with the PMJ Tex-Pro. We'd call the fit flatteringly slim. It works well on most people.

The tightest part of the jean is the ankle, but the fact that the material is infused with stretch means that they will nearly always accomodate a pair of Daytona Roadstars.

If you know your jeans, you may well know Levi's 511 fit; it's somewhat slimmer than a 501, and we reckon it's the closest jean in the Levi's range to the Tapered Slim. This having been said, the stretch built in to the Rokkers makes them way more comfortable than your average, high street, western jean.

Because we have worked with Rokker for so long, we probably understand and appreciate this better than anybody, but it is perhaps something you'll only come to realise when you try a pair of their jeans on.

In the past, Rokker has offered jeans in a huge variety of washes and colours; from Selvedge-style indigo blue to that heavily faded wash that still seems popular in Eastern Europe. They even did what they called a 'vintage' wash; it just looked dirty to us, and we didn't really like it. But what Rokker never really mastered was a true black. I gather this can actually be difficult to achieve in a jean and, in truth, many black jeans have historically just been very, very dark blue. When Rokker tried to do black, it normally ended up as a washed-out black; a mix between black and grey. A kind of faded black. But with this new jean they have cracked black.

So confident of this is Rokker that they call it their Black/Black jean. It is a proper black. But let's tell you what you need to know about these jeans.

In terms of detailing, the Tapered Slims are unremarkable, in that they look exactly how you would expect a classic, western jean to look.
There are no fancy touches, or unnecessary embellishments. You get two front pockets, with a change compartment on the right one. At the back, the belt can pass through a leather Rokker badge. On the backside there are two, unadorned wallet pockets. There are no external rivets on the jeans. The fly fastens by means of a brass YKK zip. The main button looks to me to be a direct copy of the one used by Levi's!

The material used in the Tapered Slim is rated AA for abrasion resistance under EN17092. Obviously, there are AAA jeans out there, although some of them are heavy, lined jeans, and will be unbearably hot in the summer. Rokker does offer an AAA rated, single-layer jean; it's fine; much easier to wear than most AAA jeans, but we take take the view that these-AA rated Tapered Slims are strong enough.

People get confused by the EN 17092 ratings, but the fact is that the standard is based on a pass mark, so some AA rated jeans are way stronger than others. We had the Tapered Slims tested on the more meaningful Cambridge test that was previously used as part of the more demanding EN 13595 protocol. They delivered a slide time in excess of six seconds. Our Spidi J-Tracker jeans, also rated AA, delivered just over two seconds. Now it is widely accepted that an average pair of leather trousers would record a time of around four seconds, and so we end up in a position where we reckon the six seconds of the Tapered Slims is more than enough for anybody.

The armour that the Black/Black jeans come with is D3O's Level 1, Ghost armour. We've seen other flat armour in jeans brands, but the SAS Tec armour that Dainese uses, for example, in its jeans is so small as to offer insufficient coverage of the knee. Of course, if you're cautious you could always upgrade to the latest, Level 2 Diablo armour from D3O. It's barely any heavier; it's much more breathable; and it's twice as protective. But this would add £xx to the cost.

Another area in which Rokker is ahead of the pack is in the way the armour fixes into the jeans. Many brands end up lining the entire front portion of their jeans in cotton, or some other material, so that this can be used as the carrier for the armour. But this means adding a lining, and on a single-layer jean that is definitely not what you want. You're kind of defeating one of the reasons for choosing a single-layer jean in the first place.

Rokker, by contrast, has developed its own, lightweight, adjustable armour pocket that is sewn into the seams, and then affixes to the jean along its top edge with tape. It means that you don't need to line the jeans; nor do you have to add a stitch line into the denim.

The last area in which Rokker betters the competition is in its offering of no less than four leg lengths; and the length of the leg is important in ensuring that the armour sits in the right place.

The Tapered Slim ia a terrific jean that offers the best of everything. It's as abrasion resistant as a leather pant. It's the most comfortable motorcycle jean you will ever wear. It looks great on. It's fabulous to ride in. And easy to walk around in when you're off the bike.

And now it comes in black. Not just any old black. This one is black/black!

Glen: Easily the best fitting motorcycle jeans I have found

Although its hard to make a full review on a pair of jeans youve only worn for a couple of hundred miles, I thought it worth adding my impressions of these Rokker Tapered Slims as I am so impressed with them. They genuinely fit, feel and look like a normal pair of jeans. Absolutley no comparison with my previous pair of lined bargain basement CraneAldi ones although, to be fair, they were OK for what I paid for them. I dont like tightrestrictive clothing, but these fit me like they were tailored. I take either a 32 or a 34 in normal jeans, depending on the cut, and the 33 Rokkers are absolutely spot on. As others have said, the legs are too slim at the hem to fit over large boots, but I have always favoured tucking anything other than waterproofs inside my boots anyway. Because these are so much slimmer at the calf than my old jeans they fit even more comfortably inside my AlpineStars Belize boots. Riding the 100+ miles home today in them on what has been one of the warmenst days of the year so far, they were very much more comfortable than my old pair. Not too hot, but also not too cold later in the evening once the sun had gone down. I suspect that they will be my main biking trouser going forwards. I think I am likely going to remove the armour in my old Frank Thomas waterproof textile trousers that I usually wear over a pair of normal jeans on the coldestwettest days I ride, and simply wear them over these instead. Hopefully I never find out first-hand about the actual performance of the D3O or if the slide time is as good as promised, but I certainly am impressed with the comfort and fit. Lets just hope that my good lady never finds out just how much I paid for them...

ADAM G: Quality and comfort on another level!

I have now worn my Rokkertech Tapered Slim jeans for several hundred miles. This is the second Rokker item of clothing I have and again I am hugely impressed by the quality of their products, every detail you look at just shouts quality. The jeans are superbly comfortable, they have a nice bit of stretch so you dont get the pinching behind the knee that I have experienced with other jeans. The pockets are also nicely deep too, so you feel you can put things in them with little risk of the items working their way out as your ride. The fit is spot on for me waist 38, it seems their sizing is exactly what they say it is. I was concerned that being slim they might be too slim, I have strong thighs and often cannot fit in to a slim jean but these are just a comfortable close fit, rather than skinny. I have found them comfortable in hot weather too, even though the fabric is reassuringly solid. Rokker gear is as we know more expensive than other brands, I was lucky enough to get these from Motolegends in their weekend sale, but I have to say I think they are worth the money, and I mean worth the full-price. I would over time like to get more of their gear, it really is in a league of its own and I think will last many years. Fortunately I have not tested them in an off, but there is a Motolegends editorial about a customer who had a huge slide in Rokker jeans and where the jeans really did protect the rider. It is good to know they are as good as they claim.
