Rukka ladies Wind-R Bib in black Product Information
Now Rukka calls this the Wind-R Bib, and technically it's true that one of its functions is to add a level of windproofing to your outfit to help keep your core warmer on a cold ride.
But what Rukka is not saying is that it's going to perform an even more important function; and that is to stop the oncoming rain from finding its way through that gap in the so-called 360 degree zip that connects the jacket to the pant.
You can have the world's most waterproof Gore-Tex waterproof suit, but if the rain finds its way in through that unprotected aperture, the water can wick its way up your base or mid-layer, or dribble down to wet your tighty-whities! Either way, it's not a nice feeling and can ruin your ride.
Now a windproof fabric is also a waterproof fabric, but because of Rukka's relationship with Gore, and because the Wind-R's fabric is not a Gore-Tex one, they are not really allowed to term this a waterproof bib. But believe us; this bib will do a great job of keeping the rain out.
Now some people may not like the idea of a bib at all. Some people might even think they look old fashioned, and perhaps they do; but experienced, old-school motorcyclists will know just how important a role a bib plays.
If you commute through the winter, if you're a professional rider out in all weathers, or if you're something like a Blood Runner, this bib can make a huge difference to your riding comfort. You will ride both warmer and dryer.
The bib will fit into any Rukka trousers made after 2004 which has the Velcro braces pouches. But frankly if your suit is over 20 years old, you've probably learned to live without a bib.
The bib attaches to the pants in the way that the braces do. At the sides the panels are elasticated for comfort, whilst the 'tail' tucks down inside the front of the trousers.
Of course, the bib also incorporates a set of Comfort and Defence braces. If your Rukka pants already come with braces, then these would simply replace them. But if you have a Kemi or a Kalix outfit you might go for Wind-R bib instead of a standard set of Rukka braces.
We have always liked motorcycle pants that come with a built-in bib. They help to keep everything contained. And they make even the most gruelling ride more bearable.
And at £70 they're not that much more expensive than a standard set of braces.
