Five RFX Sport Evo WP gloves black

The glove's upper, including the palm, is made from full-grain goat hide. Now we really like goat hide, especially for gloves; and that's because it's softer and thinner than cowhide but, for its thickness, it's actually stronger.

The membrane is Five's Drytech membrane. Now it's not a Gore-Tex membrane and it's not laminated. But truth be told this is not the glove you would buy if you knew that you'd be spending a huge amount of time in the rain.

Yes, it's waterproof, but with its all-leather chassis it will be prone to wetting out in heavy and prolonged downpours. You need to look at the RFX Sport Evo WP for what it is, however; and not for what it is not. And what it is is a waterproof sports glove; and in truth there aren't many of those about. Most sports/racing gloves are pure leather; but here's a racing-styled glove that will also keep your hands dry; well at least up to a point!

There's some suede-like material on the palm for extra grip on the bars. There's some more that runs down the little finger and on the thumb. On the main knuckle, under the leather, you get a hard knuckle protector backed with foam to absorb the energy of an impact. There are pads on the minor knuckles and on the thumb. There's also a slider on the palm. As well as a 5 mm foam pad in the wrist.

On the back of the hand there's a reflective panel for a bit of extra nighttime visibility.

The wrist fastens by means of a Velcro strap at the wrist itself and a Velcro flap at the cuff.

The index finger on both hands is touchscreen sensitive.

You also get Five's version of a visor wipe on the left hand. Basically it's a kind of absorbent panel that runs up the outside edge of the index finger. It's a different way of doing things, but it works.

The RFX Evo Sport 'WP'does not represent the last word in waterproofing. It's not the glove to commute in through the winter.

But its membrane means that it is going to be far more practical than your average racing glove. The membrane means that it will be warmer to ride in; and of course if you do get caught out in the rain it will keep your hands dry for a couple of hours; after which point there might well be some wetting out.

It's a really nice glove. It's a really protective glove. It's a really comfortable glove and it's a versatile one.

Understand what this glove is and the chances are that you won't be disappointed.

It's also not an expensive glove.
