Held Montaro WP boots in black / red

The Held Montaro is a new for 2026 motorcycle boot from Held. It's basically a waterproof sneaker style motorcycle boot. 

 

There are lots of boots out there that do the same job as the Montaro. In fact, there are simply too many of them, and usually when we're offered boots like this we turn them down because we don't see the point in offering half a dozen boots that all do the same thing.

No animals suffered in the making of the Montaro. Its chassis is totally synthetic. That means a number of things. It makes for a very lightweight boot. It makes for a boot that doesnt require a lot of care. And it makes for a boot that will take a lot of abuse.

 

A leather boot might last even longer if properly cared for and treated regularly. A leather boot might also mould better to your feet over time; but again only if treated regularly. If you don't 'cream' your leather, motorcycle boots they simply won't stand up to the rigours of motorcycling, where every climatic circumstance is magnified tenfold by the forces that are impacted upon them by riding at speed.

 

Whilst the Held Montaro looks like a high street trainer, it is of course a fully, CE-certified motorcycle boot, so you get a toughened counter in the toe, one in the heel and padded cups in the ankles.

 

The boot is a waterproof one, but it's equipped with Held's own waterproof membrane, and not a Gore-Tex one. Now we are big Gore fans. You will always pay a premium for a Gore-Tex, but often the lifetime warranty makes that worthwhile. But perhaps the only time we question the benefit of paying that premium is when it comes to an ankle boot like this. And that's because in any kind of really, heavy rain the wet stuff is going to bounce off the road and get into the boot over its low shaft.

 

The only other key feature worthy of particular mention is the boot's elasticated, quick-lacing system. You tighten the boots by running an adjustable slider down the laces. When you've found the level of tightness that works for you, you release the slider's locking mechanism. And from that point on, the laces won't loosen. The spare loop of lace then tucks into a garage at the top of the tongue. This tidies the front of the boot, and stops the laces from catching on a peg, for example.

 

There's not much more to add. You get a handy pull loop in the heel, and there's some reflective highlights for better nighttime visibility.

 

The only other point to mention is the price. The Montaro seems to offer pretty decent value. You could pay more, but I don't think the Montaro is lacking anything. You could pay less; but do that and you won't get Held's quality.

 

We like the Montaro. It's comfortable, protective, it will do what is expected of it; and it's a bit of a looker too, in our book.
