Icebreaker mens merino 150 Zone long sleeve crew base layer in black Product Information

We swear by Merino as both a base layer and a mid layer, but this top, in a lightweight 150 g. configuration, is the ultimate base layer. Even though it is made with Merino, this top is not about trapping heat. It’s about wicking moisture which, as we all know, is a particular quality of Merino. But Merino works well as a base layer for a couple of other reasons. When you are sweating merino can hold a lot of moisture without the wearer feeling wet. The other benefit is that, for unmentionable biological reasons that we don’t want to go into, it doesn’t smell even if you have worn it for a long time without washing it.

This particular garment is interspersed with mesh panels for even more breathability. These panels run across the shoulders and down the back. The sleeves are Raglan sleeves which aids mobility. All the seams are flat lock stitched to prevent chafing. The back of the shirt is longer so that it tucks in to your trousers to ensure nothing is exposed.

This may not be the cheapest base layer, but it would be hard to find a base layer that is technically superior. Classically, you would wear a Merino or similar mid layer over it. But it would also be perfect for wearing underneath a down jacket or a heated one.

Brian Crumley: Icebreaker merino base layer

Great product and worth the money.Quite light but obviously they do heavier ones. Merino wool is remarkable in how it works. Keeps you warm when its cold and cold when its warm. Also it doesnt smell on long tours. Another great choice by Motolegends.

Andrew D-based: The switch to Merino

Prompted by the vids, I bought some Icebreaker shirts. For the full German winter, I prefer the 260 and 320, but see the 150s getting used more as it warms up a bit. They have a nice feel, but need a bit of care when putting on and taking off. The feel is less clammy than synthetic materials.

David McCutcheon: Icebreaker

Excellent. Being Merion I knew it would not let me down and it has not. Feels great on does the job. Hard to explain, you do really notice the difference.
