Spidi Windout Shell for ladies in grey Product Information

For 2024 we will be bringing in a number of products from the Italian manufacturer on an exclusive basis. As ever, we have cherry picked styles that we think will work for our customers. But these are not just items that we have merely taken a shine too, because there are lots of lovely-looking products in the Spidi range. Rather, our emphasis has been on finding styles that fulfil a role, or fill a niche, that is not covered by the gear we already offer.

And the ladies Windout jacket is a prime example of this approach. We chose it largely because there is no ladies' equivalent of Klim's Zephyr jacket. Now the Zephyr is a phenomenal bit of kit. It is a wafer thin windproof jacket. And it is this windproof membrane that will add a layer of extra protection from the wind under whatever jacket you are wearing. It has become a near mandatory piece to compliment the Klim Marrakesh, but even under a Rukka laminated jacket, the Zephyr will cause the wearer to feel just a little bit warmer.

For us, it's a great shame that there is no ladies' equivalent to the Zephyr; we wish there was one. But when we came across Spidi's Windout jacket on our last visit to the Spidi factory, we felt it would do what the Zephyr does, and potentially a bit more too.

It has to be said that it is not the same as the Zephyr. It is bulkier than the Zephyr; and that won't always be to its advantage. But it is also warmer than the Zephyr; and that sometimes will be to its advantage.

The Windout feels like a lightweight softshell jacket. The entire front of the jacket, and the uppers of the arms are made from a windproof material known as Windout, hence the name of the jacket. The back of the jacket, the undersides of the arms, and the back are fashioned from a stretch fabric. The inside is lined with a polar fleece material.

The result is a jacket that is supremely comfortable. And because Spidi understands women's garments in the way that few motorcycle clothing companies do, the Windout jacket is also very form fitting and flattering.

Truth be told there's not much more to report. The jacket has two, external pockets. There's a zip that runs up the front. And you get a raised collar that fastens with a popper.

Will it fulfill the role we envisaged beneath a ladies' Marrakesh? Most certainly it will. And with its polar fleece interior it will be quite a bit warmer than the Zephyr. But if you want to also wear a down jacket beneath a Marrakesh in addition to the Windout, then there's a danger that there might just be too much bulk. That will depend on a number of factors, of course.

The Windout is going to work for a lot of people in a lot of situations. It combines thermal properties with the ability to block out the effects of wind chill. Conceivably, there are warmer layers out there. A down jacket or even something with a hollow-form fibre component would be more insulating, but those wouldn't combat the oncoming colder air in the way the Windout will. It's a top that will work well, particularly for riders who are facing the brunt of the wind.

But not to be forgotten is that the Windout will be really comfortable; and will look great too.

And at just £99.99, it's not that expensive. Indeed, that's the same price as the men's Zephyr.
