Halvarssons Tihola gloves in black Product Information

The Halvarssons Tihola is another one of those gloves that sits somewhere between a traditional summer-waterproof glove and a winter one. There are quite a few gloves that sit in this niche. It would be fair to suggest, however, that the Tihola is more summer-waterproof than winter. It's thermal component really is somewhat tokenistic. Nothing more than a few grams of Innoborne in the palm.

The glove has a goatskin palm, with a textile back. And, really, this is how a waterproof glove should be constructed. Leather for better feel on the grips. Textile on the back in order to protect better against wetting out. The membrane is Halvarssons' own membrane, known as Hi-Art. Over the years, it has proven to be as waterproof as any. You get a visor wipe on the left thumb.

There are concertina stretch bands on the fingers to make the glove more comfortable on the bars. To the same end, the glove has an open back.

For protection, there’s a hard, knuckle protector that appears to be faced in a Superfabric type material, although we suspect that it’s a lookalike of some description. There are rubber bumpers on, and foam pads in, some of the fingers. The palm is lined with Hi-Art, which is a strengthening material that is used in a lot of Halvarssons’ products. It can increase the strength of a textile fabric by up to 500%, apparently. On the palm, and down the outside of the hand, you get an additional layer that looks to give both better purchase and add abrasion resistance. Something akin to a digi-leather, perhaps. Finally, there’s a rubber pad at the base of the palm.

The Tihola has a longer cuff, but it clamps down tightly with a particularly clever strap arrangement that attaches in two places on the cuff. This combines with a second flap at the end of the cuff.

There is one respect in which the Tihola, in common with many other Halvarssons’ gloves, is ahead of the pack. It has the best touchscreen-sensitive finger arrangement in the businesss. It’s called NUDUD, and it involves a rubber nodule being sewn into the end of the right-hand index finger. Compared with most systems, it’s pinpoint accurate, and totally reliable. If this facility is important for you, you should go for a Halvarssons’ glove, be it the Tihola, or another one.

In terms of pricing, we would suggest that the Tihola represents good value, which is what you’d expect from the Swedish brand. The membrane is not laminated, and it is not a Gore-Tex membrane, and so one would expect it to be priced below that of the highest-end gloves. And it is. The price is a fair one. The Tihola represents excellent value for money.
