Klim Baja S4 gloves in asphalt / peyote Product Information
The Klim Baja S4 glove is a highly breathable, mesh glove designed for riding in deserts, dunes and jungles. This is the epitome of a hot-weather, adventure glove.
Now Klim is a company that is known for adventure gear and this is what we would call a 'proper', adventure glove, as opposed to a glove that looks like one. That means that this is not the kind of glove you want just because you ride an adventure bike. In temperatures much below 20 degrees this is not the glove for you. This is a serious glove designed for a specific kind of riding.
The chassis of the glove is a perforated, goat leather. The entire lower part of the glove is goat, as are the tops of the lower halves of the fingers.
Where the leather on the tops of the fingers comes to an end, the mesh fabric starts, and this runs back to the cuff. The mesh is backed by a temper foam for comfort and, I suppose, for an element of added protection.
In between the fingers there's a stretch material to aid articulation, and again add comfort.
On the main knuckle you get a highly vented TPU knuckle protector. There are some more of these TPU protectors on three of the minor knuckles. There's another one on the outside of the wrist.
Behind the mesh, the material that wraps around the wrist and extends down the thumb is a four-way stretch. Again, the aim here being to make this glove as comfortable as possible.
Klim suggests that there is a foam pad at the base of the palm, but we don't think there is. But there is one on the outside of the thumb.
On the palm of the hand, you get an extra overlay of leather for added strength. This leather extends down the outside of the hand
In terms of features, you get touchscreen-sensitive index fingers and thumbs. There's a visor wiper on the left hand, although truth be told you're probably not going to often find yourself in the rain in gloves like this. On the back of the hand there's some Scotchlite 'Carbon Black' reflective banding.
The wrist fastens with a single Velcro wrist strap, but to make the glove easier to get into there's a stretch insert where the strap tightens around the wrist.
One of the things that you get on most Klim gloves that you don't get with lots of other brands is what they call an 'entry-assist' loop. It is so useful, we don't know why everybody doesn't add one to their gloves.
So that's Klim's Baja S4 glove. It's a serious glove. It's put together in a robust fashion. It's got everything you might expect to find on a glove like this; and then some.
Don't buy these gloves because you like the colours. Don't buy these gloves because you've got a Klim jacket. Buy them because you want a top-of-the-line, highly breathable, mesh glove for riding in the hottest and most gnarly of conditions. Do this, and you'll end up with one of the most vented, off-road gloves out there.
