Waxed Cotton motorcycle jackets

Waxed Cotton motorcycle jackets were some of the very earliest motorcycle jackets, from companies like Barbour and Belstaff, were made from wax cotton. Initially they were used by sailors. Today, wax cotton is very much in fashion, but it’s also very practical. A wax cotton motorcycle jacket does not easily absorb moisture. In fact, rain tends to run off it. But if you combine a wax cotton outer with a waterproof membrane, you can end up with a very high level of waterproofing. But practical as wax cotton can be as a material for a motorcycle jacket, its popularity is linked to its classic heritage. Today, the best of wax cotton jackets are, without doubt, Belstaff jackets. They make the best. You can wear wax cotton jacket on a classic bike, on a modern retro, a custom bike, or indeed any kind of naked motorcycle. McGregor and Boorman also made wax cotton very popular with adventure bike riders. Wax cotton makes for a great jacket that you can wear all year round.

Belstaff Crosby jacket in black

Geoff: Heritage

Like the above reviewer, my first Belstaff was the Trialmaster that in 1968 cost my generous Dad around 40 quid. It was heavily advertised in the bike media by the living legend Sammy Miller. I froze my nethers off during my winter commuting to college in Wigan, grim at the best of times, but although my 16 year old self never understood layering, the elements never got through that waxed exterior. 58 years later inflation has nudged the price up a touch, but the quality and style is still there in the Crosby. So well made, so stylish, my wife loves it so much I expect shell get one. Theres good standard D30 armour and with my WarmSafe electric liner jacket, its good for all seasons. Great service from Motolegends as usual and I snapped this up in a discounted sale. Trivia note I normally go for an XL as Im a 42 chest and a proportionate 62 but that was not the best fit for me across the shoulders. The swap for a 2XL took a matter of days - perfect.

Belstaff Crosby jacket in sand

JCrider: A move to urban style clothing

This year I am adding urban style riding clothing to my wardrobe. The Belstaff Crosby jacket has style, with tailoring detail and high standard of manufacture. I am biased, but it looks good. As the jacket uses a waxed fabric with a membrane lining, it is wind and water proof. I chose SAND to move away from black and grey. The jacket is central to my new urban style when worn with black protective jeans, tan boots and gloves. The Motorlegends price was very competitive, with fast free delivery. This was my first purchase followed by the second for the boots. I will now be a repeat customer of Motorlegends.

Jeremy: Fabulous quality jacket

My first Belstaff and what a cracker! Beautifully made with great attention to detail, very comfortable and stylish. You do need to size up as they are slim fitting. Got a great deal with a discounted price.
