Fuel Rally 2 pants in black

Now, with many suits, the pants will mirror the matching jacket, but with the Fuel Rally 2 that only goes so far.

 

The 500 denier Nylon fabric that is used on the jacket is used for the pants. You get the same PU coating, and the same, not-so-impressive, 5000mm, waterproof membrane. But you don't get the jacket's laminated, softshell inner, and so what we have is a trouser that is really not particularly effective in terms of its waterproofing qualities. And that's a shame.

 

Like the jacket, the pant is AA rated under EN 17092, but somewhat bizarrely the pants come with Level 1 Ghost armour. And frankly Ghost is not really what you want in a pant that has adventure-riding in its sights. In our view, Ghost is not the right armour for an off-road, adventure trouser. It will simply move around too much; and what this means is that the armour may well not be in the right place if you hit the deck.

 

You still get many of the things you would expect on such a pant. Vents on the legs, although they're rather small. An adjustable waist band. A connector zip for the jacket. Large, front-loader pockets on the thighs. Long zips at the ends of the legs, with Velcro straps to enable the trouser legs to be a wrapped tightly around the boots.

 

But what really lets these pants down, as it does with many such pants, is that they come in just one leg length. And that is just not enough. What we might term a 'high-end' pant will come in three leg lengths. To make matters worse, the armour is not very adjustable. So if the pant is a bit short for you the armour will sit too high. If the pant is a little too long in the leg for you, the armour will sit too low.

 

So, whilst the Rally 2 pants might seem to match the Rally 2 jacket, they fall short in some key respects.
