There are, as we all know, just three types of glove. Summer gloves without a membrane. Summer-waterproof gloves that incorporate a membrane. And winter gloves that combine a membrane with insulating materials. Given this, it's not surprising that so many gloves end up looking similar. And this is why we like a glove that breaks the mould a little.

 

The Halvarssons Flon is a pure summer glove, but summer gloves are often lightweight and flimsy affairs. The Flon isn't. It's a properly-protective glove that's as robust as pretty much anything out there. And that's why it's different.

 

The chassis of the Flon is goatskin. In fact, almost the entire glove is leather. You get a pretty aggressive, quite sporty, knuckle protector. Clearly, the protector is backed with foam for comfort, and to help when it comes to the absorption of impacts. There are bumpers and further pads on the minor knuckle joints.

 

You also get a large pad of what looks like SuperFabric on the base of the palm for extra abrasion resistance. The spec. on Halvarssons' website makes no mention of SuperFabric, although we reckon it's the real stuff. Truth be told, their site doesn't say much at all about the glove, so we're going with full-fat SuperFabric!

 

There's an extra layer of leather on the palm, both for better purchase on the grips and for added abrasion resistance. But what will help most here is a layer of Hi-Art in the palm. There's also a protective pad on the outside of the hand.

 

Concertina stretch bands on the fingers and the back of the hand, elasticated inserts, and an open-back construction will all serve to make the Flon a more comfortable glove to ride in.

 

What the Flon has that you don't always get on a summer glove is reliable touchscreen sensitivity. In fact the NUDUD system used by Halvarssons is the best. Pinpoint accurate and totally reliable, it's on the index finger on the right hand.

 

The short wrist closes by means of a simple Velcro flap.

 

The Flon is not like your average summer glove. This is a very sturdy, very protective glove. It just happens not to have a membrane! 

 

It might not be as comfortable as some summer gloves to begin with, but the goats' leather will soften, and over time the Halvarssons Flon will become a supremely comfortable glove to ride in.
