Motorcycle Helmets

A motorcycle helmet is, without doubt, the most important piece of motorcycle protective wear you will ever buy. And do, naturally, we're often asked: “What’s the Best Helmet?” or “Which helmet is the safest?”. But it's not that simple - because a helmet is only safe if it fits you properly. And fit isn't just about size; it's about shape, too.

This is why we're huge advocates of Shoei helmets. Their new Personal Fit System (Shoei PFS) - available here in our Guildford shop - allows us to take a digital head scan and tailor the internal padding for a truly custom fit. But we offer fitting tweaks for Arai, Schuberth and others too.

All helmets now have to meet the ECE 22-06 safety standard, but even within that, not all helmets are equal. In our opinion, Shoei and Arai sit at the very top. They don't do entry-level lids, they don't build to price points, and they invest heavily in R&D and shell construction. Safety is the priority - not gimmicks.

For tourers and commuters, we rate the Shoei Neotec 3 as the best flip-lid helmet out there. The Schuberth C5 runs it close and now also allows more flexible fitting and integrated comms options from both Sena and Cardo, including one with ANC!

Buy online with free UK next-day delivery and returns, or visit us in Guildford to get fitted by the people who fit more premium helmets than anyone else in Europe.

FAQs about motorcycle helmets:

What should I prioritise when choosing a motorcycle helmet?

When choosing a motorcycle helmet, fit comes first, even above brand, features or price. A helmet that doesn’t fit your head shape correctly won’t protect you as well in an impact and could be dangerously uncomfortable. That’s why Motolegends emphasises fit and shape over purely measurement. Safety standards like ECE 22-06 are essential, but a well-fitting helmet that conforms to your head shape will perform best in real-world scenarios.

Are some helmet brands safer than others?

All helmets sold at Motolegends meet the ECE 22-06 safety standard, but brands like Arai and Shoei stand out because they prioritise safety above all else. These brands invest heavily in research and development, avoid shortcut features that could compromise the shell, and focus on build quality and protective performance. They don’t build helmets to price, they build them to protect.

What helmet types are available and how do I choose?

There are several types of motorcycle helmets, and the best one depends on what sort of riding you are doing:

Full-face: Best all-round protection for road use.
Flip-up / modular: Combines full-face safety with convenience and best noise reduction.
Adventure: Good for mixed on and off-road riding.
Open-face: Great for relaxed urban or warm-weather riding, but less protection.

Shoei Neotec 3 Anthem TC10 helmet in red / white / blue

Martin Sheffield: Top Quality

I replaced my Neotec 2 as it was 5 yrs old with a new Neotec 3 in the recent sale event. It is a better helmet than the Neotec 2 in a number of areas the quality of finish, graphics, quietness, sun visor and it is designed and tested to the latest standard. The medium size fits my head shape well and after changing the head lining its been comfortable over a 2000km trip to Spain. An area for further improvement would be the top of the helmet ventilation as consistent temperatures over 30C left my head sweating. I didnt use PFS but it was simple and cost free to swap the liner for a thinner one. I also transferred the Sena SRL2 comms from the old helmet to the new using the Shoei adaptor. That took a morning to do but it works very effectively and saves £300. In summary the Neotec 3 is an improvement in just about every aspect and is a better helmet than its predecessor. Delivery and service by Motolegends was its usual high standard.

Schuberth C5 / E2 cheek pads

David: Great customer service

I wish I had known about the deal that MotoLegends do in relation to the Schuberth alternative inserts. If I had I would have also purchased the helmet from them as well and saved myself some money. They swap the standard options out if you need smallerlarger alternatives and dont charge you for the new ones, but simple keep the original ones in exchange. Excellent customer focused idea.
