The Zephyr is a zip-up jacket. The Winsto-R is a more traditional base-layer in the way that it wears.

 

The Rukka Winsto-R is a heavier, thicker garment. It has more stretch in it. Cleverly, it also has mesh inserts along the insides of the arms, up the flanks and in the back. And so this will aid breathability in those areas where the wind is not going to be so much of a factor.

 

We kind of prefer the jacket nature of the Klim, as it makes it easier to take off when you reach your destination. But whilst there's some stretch in the Zephyr, there's more in the Winsto-R. It also comes in seven sizes rather than the Klim's six, so the chances of getting a perfect fit are perhaps better

 

The Winsto-R also has a higher collar for better windproof protection for the neck.

 

We kind of suspect that this has been created to work beneath Rukka jackets like the Air Karvik and the Air Vihti, and indeed it will do. 

 

One question might be how the Klim and Rukka options compare in terms of their windproofing qualities. Well that's difficult to be definitive about. But we have a wind machine here in the shop. And we tried the two garments on back-to-back, by way of a comparison. Perhaps not surprisingly, given that it's thicker than the Zephyr, we found the Rukka to be more resistant to the oncoming wind.
