Segura Lady Jewel Crystal jacket in khaki Product Information
French brand Segura has made technical motorcycle wear that doesn’t look like technical motorcycle wear its thing, so to speak. And the Segura Lady Jewel Crystal is a prime example. It’s a great looking jacket, and with its Damien Hirst-inspired Swarovski crystal skull design on the right sleeve, waisted fit and barely perceptible body armour this is a jacket that looks as though it came straight out of a fashion shop.
The material that it’s made from is called Serica. Serica has the soft handle of cotton, but is clearly much stronger. The jacket has a waterproof membrane, a fixed mesh liner and a removable thermal inner jacket that is backed with aluminium to help better insulate the rider.
The armour in the Lady Jewel is particularly impressive; it’s actually not D30, but it’s really thin and flexible. Clearly it is CE approved armour, but put the jacket on and you would really be hard put to know that it’s got armour in at all. There’s no armour in the back, but there is a pocket that will take a D3O Viper protector.
Pockets. What is it with Segura and pockets? Personally, I find that I can’t can’t locate stuff even if my jacket only has two or three pockets. But this jacket has more than 10 pockets. Fine if you’re Special Forces, but really not so necessary for a weekend ride out.
What many motorcycle manufacturers get wrong when they’re designing ladies’ clothing is the fit. Often they put an adjuster on the hips; now that’s not where you normally need an adjuster. You need adjusters at the waist, and that’s exactly what the Lady Jewel has; and it’s an awfully simple device. It’s an internal drawstring; but it works, enabling the jacket to be worn with a really nice fitted shape.
Further adjustability comes courtesy of poppers and zips at the sleeve ends, and through the means of a zippable gusset at the hem. This last feature is really useful because it allows the jacket to splay a little when you’re on the bike.
Now even though you would never really think of a jacket like this being particularly technical, there’s not a lot you’d want that it doesn’t have. You’ve even got venting, with Rukka-style vents on the shoulders, with corresponding exhaust vents at the back.
Even in the tiny detailing this jacket impresses. The double storm flat to keep the rain away from the zip. And the ubiquitous use of YKK zips throughout. Segura's Lady Jewel Crystal really is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
