Flip-up motorcycle helmets

Not everybody loves flip-up helmets; some people associate such helmets with the police and a certain kind of BMW rider, but frankly these people need to get over themselves. We at Motolegends are big flip-up helmet fans, and we think they represent the best of all worlds. First, a flip-lid helmet is quieter than a full-face helmet, as the neck-roll can fit closer to the neck, and this is because a flip-lid can be slid into place from the back of the head, rather than having to pass over the widest part of the skull! The Schuberth C3 Pro is still the quietest helmet on the market even five years after it was first released. When a modern flip-up crash helmet is closed, it is pretty much indistinguishable from a full-face helmet, but when you’re in town, the front can be lifted to create a much better airflow. It’s also useful if you want to ask somebody for directions. It is also vastly preferred by the medical services in the event of an accident as they can access airways and the face without having to take your helmet off. So we can't really see the downside of a flip-lid.

For us the leading flip-front helmet is probably the  brand new Shoei Neotec 3 helmet. We can change cheek pads and liners for the best fit. New out in 2022 is the Schuberth C5 which is set to compete as the best in the field.

Shoei Neotec 3 helmet in white

John: New helmet

Got a Neotec 3 it is quieter and lighter than the Neotec 2 and the shell is slightly smaller. Also got the sena SRL 3 and had to come back to Motolegends a week later as this analogue old codger trying to make his way in this digital world could not pair the phone and sat nav to the headset which they did in a couple of minutes good service.

Richard Leek: Wow

What a difference, was never that impressed with my Neotec 2, didnt buy it from Motolegends. Had the PFS done on the Neotec 3 today and the fit is vastly different and as a result its so much quieter.

Steve: Fantastic touring helmet

This helmet is super comfortable if you have it fitted using the PFS system and has bags of features. Im using a Cardo intercom system and use the Cardo Neotec 3 adaptor to mount it to this helmet. There are three things that could do with being improved. The ventilation is really not that good in 30 degree plus temperatures. The chin vent does nothing and the vent on top does very little. And if you raise your visor to one of the intermediate stop positions it obscures the top vent cutting off what little airflow there is. Second, there is no reasonable first stop open visor position to help with demisting or airflow. There a tiny intial gap when opening the visor and then a huge gap to the first stop. Thirdly, the pinlock does not adequately fill the visor shape, so there is considerable condensation at the outer left and right edges that is enough to obscure some peripheral vision. Dont get me wrong, this is a fantastic helmet and warrants a five star rating but there are acouple of improvements that could really help.
