We have to admit that we have a bit of a penchant for brown leather jackets. We've got nothing against black leather jackets, but black leather is a bit more 'old-school'. You know; Marlon Brando, Peter Fonda, Arnie, the Fons, and so on. A brown leather jacket is a little bit more relaxed; a bit less in-yer-face. On the website, we currently have more than 40 different styles of brown, leather jacket. And they come in every conceivable configuration, colour, length, weight and, of course, shade. Below, we show just 10 of our favourites, but you'll find loads more on the website. And remember, we'll always be the cheapest. If anybody in the UK discounts anything we sell, we'll beat their price by 10%. If they're in Europe, we'll match their price. Anyway, take a look and see for yourself.
The Rukka Markham jacket is a classic, 'café-racer' style, full cowhide leather jacket. It reflects a new, more urban direction for this hitherto technically-focused Finnish brand. It is very much a back-to-basics jacket, with very few frills and fripperies. Of course, it is still constructed to Rukka's customary high standards. You get adjusters on the hem and cuffs. The D30 armour comes fitted as standard in the elbows and shoulders. There's a pocket for a back protector, but it isn't included. There are accordion stretch in the shoulders, and padded areas on the shoulders and sleeves. The Markham boasts a simple, straightforward and somewhat understated design but, most importantly, this isn't any old leather jacket; this is a Rukka leather jacket. We like it. It also comes in black.
This Ace Légende jacket from Helstons is exclusive to Motolegends. It is an upgraded version of the longstanding Ace Vintage, and has been produced in collaboration with us. It is made from a softer, and better quality, Italian leather. This leather has been ‘tumbled’ or ‘washed’ to give it a slightly beaten up appearance. In accordance with our request, it sits shorter at the front, and longer at the back. For better breathability, the jacket is not equipped with a waterproof membrane. The top pockets have also been turned into vents. Instead of a removable thermal liner, the Ace Légende has a fixed Outlast lining. Armour comes as standard in the back, elbows and shoulders. There are lots of other nicely detailed features of this jacket; suffice it to say that it is probably one of the nicest, and most technical, leather jackets we have ever offered.
The Spidi Firebird jacket is simply stunning, and not only looks great, but does great too. (I know that last bit is grammatically incorrect, obviously). It's made from 0.99mm thick Nubuck leather and there is also a 100 gramme removable thermal liner. Large accordion stretch panels can be found down the flanks and Tenax Flex panels are set into the arms for ease of movement on and off the bike. There are three pockets on the outside and the collar is lined with sheepskin which looks really cool. This jacket comes complete with shoulder and elbow armour. There’s a Velcro strip in the back that will take a D30 protector.
The Garage is a really lightweight, summer, leather jacket made from 1.0/1.2mm Italian tanned leather that has been washed for extra softness and a vintage look. The leather has been treated for waterproofing, although this will only serve to fend off a light shower, and there are vents to aid air flow in hot conditions. There's CE approved armour in the elbows and shoulders, and there's a space for a back protector. It's a back-to-basic leather jacket with heaps of style and a good deal of practicality.
The Furygan Stuart jacket is a retro-styled, slightly sporty, leather jacket. It's made from a full-grain, calfskin leather that has been treated to give the jacket a softer handle, and something of a beat-up appearance. The complexity of the design is quite unique, the jacket being constructed from more panels than we have ever seen on a leather jacket. But it works, as does the subtle Furygan branding that is etched into the surface of the leather. There are additional areas of padded leather for comfort and extra protection on the shoulders, elbows and forearms. Behind the shoulders you get accordion stretch ribbing for easier movement on the bike. D30 armour comes as standard in the shoulders and elbows. There's a pocket for a back protector. To enable the Stuart jacket to be worn across the seasons, it comes with an aluminium-lined, thermal inner jacket. You get two external zip pockets, and one on the inside. There's also a zip to allow the jacket to be attached to any Furygan pant. The sleeve ends are zip fastened, and the waist can be adjusted by means of a Velcro™ strap.
The Jayzer, we are told, takes its inspiration from a jacket worn by Hans Solo in Star Wars. The chassis of the jacket is buffalo leather that has been treated to give it a bit of a battle hardened appearance. (Those light sabres can cause merry-hell when they come into contact with leather). Inside the jacket there’s a removable 90 gramme thermal lining. CE armour comes as standard in the elbows and shoulders and, of course, you get a pocket for a back protector. There are buckle adjusters for the waist and sleeves. The sleeves also have zip fasteners to help with the wearing of gloves. On the outside of the jacket are six pockets. Inside there are two more. For comfort, and to stop rain getting in, the neck is lined with Neoprene. But, of course, the standout feature on this jacket is the green textile pleating that runs down the arms. It is certainly different, but good-different in our view.
Cow's leather 1.0-1.1mm in thickness. Corduroy in neck and cuffs. Removable D3O CE armour in shoulders and elbows. Pocket for a back protector. Hand waxed and oiled for vintage look. Two chest pockets with flaps. Two jet pockets with zips. Quilted reinforcements on shoulders. Metal aerators under arms. Adjusters at neck, waist and cuffs.
The Halvarssons Trenton is a biking jacket based loosely on the design of the original WW2, A2 flying jacket. It's made from a washed, or tumbled, goatskin. Now goatskin tends to be thinner than cowhide, but for its thickness it's much stronger. Goat, though, is superbly comfortable to wear, and indeed that's the case with the Trenton. But, as always, Halvarssons has lined this jacket in all the most vulnerable areas with its own Hi-Art lining that increases the strength of leather by 200%. CE armour is fitted, as standard, in the elbows and shoulders. There's a pocket for a back protector, although frankly we would recommend our own Velcro-adapted D30 protector over Halvarssons' own. That is, unless you're wanting a protector that can double as a wake board! The jacket has two pockets on the outside, and two more on the inside. The collar is kept in place with fasteners to stop it flying about in the wind. The hem adjusts by means of two side buckle straps. Obviously, the Trenton will zip into any Halvarssons pant, but use the company's simple but clever Waist Zip, and you can connect the jacket to any pair of jeans. This is going to be a great summer jacket. If it is cold, layer up. If it is wet, put on a waterproof. Or take the car!
The Detroit from Richa combines terrific, authentically-aged leather with a cool retro look. It's going to work well on any custom, retro or naked bike. The jacket comes as standard with D3O armour in the back, elbows and shoulders. There's also a removable thermal liner which, once removed, reveals an air venting system to keep you cool on warm days.
The BKS Leather jacket is a cafe-racer style jacket which sits short at the front to prevent it from pushing up under the chin when you're on the bike. At the back, the length is generous, easily covering the belt line. The torso is tapered slightly from the shoulders like a gents' blazer; this is to avoid the typical bunching up beneath the neck fastening that you find with many biking jackets. The collar on the BKS Leather jacket is padded, with a soft, rear neck roll. The sleeves are slimmer than on many jackets, to keep the armour in place. At the sleeve ends, there are generous eight-inch YKK zips to allow them to fit over gloves.
The leather used to construct the jacket is between 1.0 and 1.2 mm in thickness and has been tanned to provide a particularly soft and supple hand. The jacket linings have been supplied by one of Savile Row's leading cloth merchants. At the shoulders, elbows and lumbar areas a second layer of leather encompasses a sandwich of foam and ballistic nylon with D3O armour in the shoulders, elbow and back. The pockets are lined with a plush cotton pocketing material for a feel that is akin to a cashmere glove. The basic BKS Leather jacket will retail for £1250, but for no extra cost you can specify longer or shorter sleeves, or an inch or two more or less in the body.
Alternatively, if you want something even more unique, Brian from BKS will provide a totally bespoke fitting, which he can undertake on one of his regular visits to our Guildford shop. Obviously, there'll be an extra charge for bespoke orders, but you'll be able to choose additional pockets, and whatever detailing you desire, including different zips and linings. And on all bespoke leather jackets, Brian will laser engrave your name on the reverse of the main zip flap.
