Motorcycle Jackets

Choosing a motorcycle jacket is probably the most important gear decision you have to make. The huge choice of bike jackets on the market can be bewildering. There are the safety issues to consider - how abrasion resistant is the jacket material; are there reinforced areas; what level is the shoulder and elbow armour; is a back protector included or optional? Then you need to think about the waterproofing and venting properties of the jacket. Will you be riding in the summer or winter or both? These days a textile motorcycle jacket can be just as effective as leather in terms of protection. But leather has no thermal qualities, and is very poor when it comes to keeping the rider dry, as it simply absorbs moisture. Staying safe on a bike is helped when you ride comfortably, and in most circumstances, hot or cold, wet or dry, you'll be more comfortable in a textile jacket. Textile jackets  also tend to come equipped with a whole host of technical features that often don't make their way onto leather motorcycle jackets. Choose leather if your priority is looking good, or if you’re riding on the track. Choose textile for commuting and touring.

I have the Kilm Marrakesh jacket and the Rukka Air Vihti jackets. I also have two bikes one for commuting into London and the other to go on tour like the bikes use them for different purposes . Both the jackets are very good the Kilm IMO very slightly more airflow and definitely less bulky and is the more comfortable jacket casual jacket to use in town . Its quality fit and ability to wear to and from meetings with jeans suits no longer used these days - The air flow is great and I have upgraded the protection and sometimes I take out the back protection and use a plasma 5 airbag which also works. In the hottest weather heatwave I did have a period wondering if I should have bought the Kilm induction but over 25 to about 32 degrees is great . The jacket coupled with a windbreaker for colder mornings also works. The folks @ motolegends again have provided great service and advice.

Ian: Thinking Riders Mesh Jacket

I bought this to replace my Klim Marrakesh, which just didnt flow enough air for me once the temperature climbed above the mid-twenties, and certainly not once I got into the thirties. The Induction Pro is a more substantial jacket than the Marrakesh and it feels and MotoCap tests demonstrate that it would perform better in an off, and although marginally less comfortable than the Marrakesh overall it really doesnt notice on the road. I find the Induction Pro fine for use without a windproof layer from 22C upwards, and thats on an S1000XR with a short screen, so a modicum of wind protection from the bike but no barn door fairing. Practically speaking the induction has a welcome 8 pockets including one for a phone, so theres plenty of room to stash bits and pieces, and the adjustment straps on the lower arms do a good job of holding the elbow armour in the right place. I experimented with armour options by fitting a set of D3O Diablo protectors in place of the supplied items, but whilst comfortable they werent a huge improvement and their thinner profile made the jacket feel too baggy this gave the armour space to move around and raised doubt as to whether it would stay in the right place in a crash, so I reverted to the original items. To sum up, very happy with my purchase its a well made and substantial feeling garment that flows a good amount of air without my feeling that Im compromising too much on safety. Definitely recommended.

Belstaff Tamar jacket in olive

David: Great bit of Kit

I bought the Tamar to replace an old BMW mesh vented jacket. The Tamar is a lot better in many ways. The armour seems to stay in exactly the right places and the jacket is a very good fit. The weight of the jacket also inspires confidence should something nasty happens. I can see myself wearing it a lot using the layering system Chris is always banging on about. As usual ordering from Motolegends was easy and delivery was the next day. The combination of a good supplier, and a reliable delivery company, is how online shopping should be.
