Motorcycle Jeans

Motorcycle jeans can be the perfect choice for the modern biker. Riding jeans will protect you effectively in the event of a crash as long as you choose the appropriate biking jean with proper abrasion and impact protection suitable for the riding you are doing. Motorcycle jeans are very different to regular jeans. There is now a huge choice of riding jeans, and, unsurprisingly, they vary hugely in price and levels of protection. If you need help, visit us at Motolegends for expert advice on the right motorcycle jeans for you. We have seen hundreds of pairs of motorcycle jeans and selected the ones that we feel offer the best combination of protection, comfort and style.

Firstly, let’s be clear. You shouldn’t really be riding a motorcycle in regular jeans. There is no law against it, but normal high street jeans will not protect you either from abrasion injuries or from impact. You need proper protective, armoured motorbike jeans.

Here at Motolegends, we are motorcycle jeans experts. These are the questions we address. What are the riding jeans made of? How protective is the material for abrasion? Are they single layer jeans or Kevlar lined jeans? Is there a CE rating for jeans? What does the A, AA or AAA on the label of motorbike jeans mean? Do they have knee and hip armour? What armour, what level and is it in the right place? The choice of riding jeans is now huge and potentially confusing. Trust us as the motorcycle jeans experts to help you get the right motorbike jeans for you and your riding.

For many bikers, protective riding jeans are the most comfortable and most appropriate option. Bikers have been riding motorcycles in denim jeans for decades but it is only in more recent times that modern materials have made it possible to have a truly protective, armoured motorcycle jean that is as comfortable as a regular street jean, but still offers good levels of abrasion resistance and impact protection. We stock, almost exclusively, what is termed a single-layer motorcycle jean rather than a lined or Kevlar riding jean. That is because we believe these are a better option for today's motorcyclist. These wear more like a street jean and are therefore more comfortable to ride in, much cooler in hot weather, easier to walk around in or to have your lunch in! But, contrary to some things you might read they can still be equally or even more protective than a lined motorcycle jean.

In order for a  motorcycling jean to be protective, it should be made of an abrasion resistant material and then also come with knee and hip armour for impact protection. The level of strength of the material will determine how protective it is and will in term determine is rating under the ECE 17092 legislation. A riding jean can be rated A, AA or AAA depending on the material it is made of, the percentage content of that material and the armour the jean is supplied with. Here at Motolegends we stock some of the best motorcycle jeans on the market.

The very best motorcycle jeans, in our view, are Rokker jeans from the Swiss company. They are made of a material called Armalith which comprises an UHMWPE and cotton. We have worked with Rokker to come up with the ideal fit of a mens biker jean. It is a modern slim shape but with sufficient stretch to make them comfortable on the bike. They come in waist sizes from 29" through to 46" and in four leg lengths 30", 32", 34" and 36". This jean is called the Rokker Legend.

FAQs about motorcycle jeans

Are AAA motorcycle jeans always better than AA jeans?

Not necessarily. AAA-rated jeans generally offer higher abrasion resistance, but they can sometimes be heavier, warmer or less flexible than AA-rated jeans. For many riders, a high-quality AA jean may actually be a better choice for everyday road riding because it balances protection, comfort and practicality more effectively. The important things is to choose the right jean for the riding you do.

Are single-layer motorcycle jeans protective enough?

Yes. Modern single-layer motorcycle jeans can be incredibly protective. Materials such as Armalith, Dyneema and other UHMWPE blends are capable of offering abrasion resistance comparable to, or even exceeding, leather in some cases. Single-layer jeans are also cooler, lighter and far more comfortable than old-fashioned lined Kevlar jeans.

Do motorcycle jeans get hot in summer?

Much less so than textile trousers or lined riding jeans. One of the reasons we favour single-layer motorcycle jeans is because they breathe and wear more like a normal street jean. They are easier to walk around in, more comfortable in warm weather and generally much more versatile for day-to-day riding.

How important is armour placement in motorcycle jeans?

Very important. Even the best armour is ineffective if it's sitting in the wrong place. Knee armour should stay correctly positioned when you are sitting on the bike, not just standing up in a showroom. Good motorcycle jeans will allow some adjustment of armour height to ensure proper coverage an comfort.

PMJ Sunset chinos in cognac

Roger That: Excellent - Would Buy Again

I wear these on an hour long each way daily commute and then all day in the office. On the bike they are really comfortable and the knee armour stays over the knee - much better than on other trousersjeans I own. The armour is also a decent size - bigger than the regular D30. They are also a great length - somehow they manage to sit perfectly on and off the bike. Worn for hours in the office the comfort is top drawer. They are smart enough to be worn with a formal shirt if needed. The armour does not make them uncomfortable. Probably the best commuter work motorcycle trousers Ive owned.

Halvarssons Rogen jeans in blue

Ian: Very comfortable.

Normally Im between a 34 and 36 waist depending on manufacturer, so went for a size 36 EU52, but found they were just a bit to lose around the waist once unzipped from the jacket, so exchanged them for a 34 EU50. Fit is spot on, very comfortable and the regular length sits just right against my Daytonas when sat on the bike. The knee armour is also well placed over the knee. Off the bike they just look like a regular pair of jeans. They zip into my Marrakesh and my Halvarssons Vinvallen jackets, Had the zip in my Klim Marrakesh altered by ML to take Rukka and Halvarssons kit. Very happy with them and superb service from ML.
