There just aren’t as many leather biking pants around as there used to be. Back in the day, every self-respecting biker had at least one pair in the wardrobe. But the leather pant was kind of hi-jacked by the sports bike crowd, and in recent years it’s been difficult to find really nice leather biking trousers; especially if you didn’t want knee sliders or a calf-gripping fit.

The default option these days for those who don’t want to wear technical motorcycle gear tends to be jeans and a leather jacket, although of course the kind of bike you ride and the kind of riding you do will also have a bearing on your clothing choices.

In this review, the chap in the cap tells us all about TCX’s adventure boot called the Drifter. It’s a slightly more off-road focused version of the company’s other adventure-style boot called the Baja. Now Chris likes the boot, and if you’re an adventure rider who is going to spend most of his or her time on the black stuff, this may well be the perfect boot. But recently Chris came back from a trip to Morocco on crutches.

We first came across the Richa Infinity 2 Pro suit when we visited Richa in Belgium in mid-2019. We can see now that they ruthlessly and cynically laid a trap for us. We had gone to talk about the UK market and to discuss our views about Richa as a brand. It was at that meeting that we discovered their amazing ‘Stripper’ commuting pants, and that we first sampled some of their new 2020 season gloves that we fell for big time.

In his latest review, the chap in the cap waxes lyrical about the new Rukka Kalix glove. It’s a short-cuff, summer, waterproof glove. Made from a mix of a textile fabric called Taslan and cowhide, its waterproofing comes courtesy of a laminated, Gore-Tex membrane. There are few gloves that are as well spec’d as the Rukka Kalix.

In this review Chris tells us about a single-layer pant from Klim that is far more functional than, at first, it appears to be. When we originally saw the Outrider we thought it was a casual pant for wearing off the bike, and certainly it has that Carhartt, workwear pant look look about it. But it’s actually a pretty impressive motorcycling pant.

There’s a lot of talk these days about laminated, motorcycle clothing. There seems to be a perception out there that laminated products are universally superior, and that drop-liner garments are not really up to the job.

We first met Lee at an American motorcycle trade show about four or five years ago. He's a bit of a motorcycling guru. He’s a well-known motorcycle trainer, a kind of Kieth Code of the road, but his pet project is his gloves. They're not like other bike gloves. They look more like the kind of gloves you'd wear if you were taking the dog for a walk, but actually these are some of the most amazing gloves we sell.

Life here at Motolegends is pretty relaxed right now. There's a really laid-back vibe in the office and the shop. And that’s because Chris is on holiday. He doesn’t like being away from the place, but occasionally Sara puts her foot down, so they're in Morocco crossing the Atlas Mountains. Holidays are important; an opportunity to relax and recharge one’s batteries.

n this review, our man in the cap reviews a new glove from Rukka. The Worsley, as it is called, has replaced the old Rytmi that was in the Finnish company’s range for many years. It is a short-cuff, summer glove, so obviously it has no waterproof membrane. As you’d expect, of Rukka, the glove is over engineered and put together with longevity in mind. As a summer glove, the Worsley is going to be really nice to wear on warmer days.

The new Richa Arc GTX suit represents two key developments. It demonstrates the Belgian company’s determination to take its brand more upmarket, and into a category that has not, historically, been representative of its heartland. It also demonstrates the move of the mainstream market away from traditional, drop-liner, waterproof motorcycle clothing towards a more technical, laminated solution.

Laminated suits are all the rage right now. And that’s because they do offer, for some, superior levels of functionality. They won’t hold water like drop-liner outfits meaning that, in heavy rain, you won’t feel as cold. And when you get off the bike, a laminated garment will dry out much faster.

Here at Motolegends we love the Swedish brand Halvarssons. They make very sensible gear that does what it says on the tin! And then some. And it’s sensibly priced too. Shop manager Sean, in truth, puts in more miles than any of us. He commutes from London to Guildford every day, but it’s only when he gets a day off that he really puts the miles in. He’s also the world’s leading anorak when it comes to the technical aspects of biking. What he doesn’t know about biking gear isn’t worth knowing although in truth occasionally some of the stuff he does know isn’t either!

This video review is somewhat of a biggie; both in terms of the subject it tackles but also in length. The subject matter is single-layer jeans. Now, for some reason, we’ve always been big on riding jeans. Must have something to do with the kind of bikers we are. But, in recent years, we’ve become the poster boys for single-layer jeans.

It was at some point over the summer of 2019 that we were visited by the owner of Italian motorcycle denim brand PMJ. He came with his team to talk to us about their protective jeans. It looked like being a short meeting because we had to be honest and tell them that we didn’t like any of their products.

A customer asked us to do a review of the best flip-lid helmets on the market, and so in this review Chris explains the benefits of flip lids. He then talks us through the history of the C3 and the C4 before comparing the C4 Pro with Shoei’s Neotec 2.

It is for us a great honour to be working in collaboration with a name as famous as Tricker’s. This is the fourth time we have worked with the Northampton-based company on a ‘motorcycle’ boot. For Christmas every year we design a special, limited-edition boot. The numbers are always tiny; and the boots always sell out pretty swiftly.
